Creation (Jaeda's Artists' Cafe 11/19/99)

So then, what is creativity?
Most people I've talked with say it's a synthesis of existing things brought together in a new kind of way. The creativity is in the relationships of ideas or objects; specifically in new ways of viewing or seeing those objects because of the new relationships.
Heinlein's Lazarus Long character was a polymath. That was the first time I'd heard that term - polymath. A polymath is a person who can integrate ideas and concepts from different disciplines into new applications. There seems to be a parallel between what a polymath does and what an artist (read "creative person") does.
